This compelling drama is a gruesome record of the life and death of John Haigh. Haigh killed nine people and dissolved them in tubs of acid in England in the 1940s. The role of Haigh is well-played by Martin Clunes. Haigh was a polished conman who gained the confidence of his victims before murdering them for financial gain and the shear pleasure of killing. There is some evidence that Haigh also drank some of the blood of his victims.

The film has a gloomy wartime atmosphere and the action of the film is carried along by Clunes who approaches the whole matter of murder in a cheerful and workmanlike manner. Quite a chilling movie with a good supporting cast including Celia Imrie. Well worth a look.
